Making a donation

We welcome donations of books, comics, sheet music, stamps & other collectables, CDs and DVDs.

In Store

If you are bringing a large amount using a vehicle then please phone us on 01904 652749 in advance – we will need to arrange a suitable time around our the traffic restrictions and shop opening times.

Our store is on Low Petergate near the Minster, and is accessible by car (for loading and unloading) when the road is open until 10.30am, it is then closed to vehicles until after we have closed, but depending on the size of your donation it might be possible for you to reach us on foot.
York City Centre is highly accessible by bus, train or taxi. For more information about transport into the City Centre you can visit www.itravelyork.info/buses

We welcome donations of all books, comics, sheet music, stamps & other collectables and CDs.

What can your donations do?

Your support is invaluable, and helps Oxfam accomplish so much good around the world. Your donations help fund projects such as textbooks for children, school dinners, building homes, and planting trees. Oxfam does this and so much more.

  • One paperback sold for £2.50 could buy a textbook for a child wanting to learn.
  • A CD sold for £3 could buy school dinners for 50 hungry children in Tanzania.
  • A DVD sold for £5 could pay for 15 trees to be planted in Ethiopia.

For a full list of ongoing campaigns and relief efforts, you can visit www.oxfam.org.uk/what-we-do

Oxfam’s ongoing efforts across the globe include vital development work such as combating climate change and the economic crisis, promoting health, education, gender equality, the right to be heard, and fair trade.

Even small donations aid the great effort!

Tag your bag (Gift Aid)

Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your gift to Oxfam – at no extra cost to you. If you pay tax in the UK, Oxfam can reclaim the basic rate tax (25%) on your gift. So, if you donate books we then sell £100, a total of £125 will go to Oxfam.

So if you’ve got books that you’ve read, dropped after just one chapter or are just collecting dust on your overflowing bookshelf – bag them all up and drop it off here on Low Petergate or at your nearest book bank. Boost your donations by making them worth 25% more with our Gift Aid scheme – Tag Your Bag!

You can sign up to the Tag Your Bag scheme in store or online, or if you have already signed up to Tag Your Bag you can order more tags.
