The sun has been peeping out of the clouds of late, we’ve been gaining more and more gardening books within our Petergate shop, and the stereotypical English man is topless and wearing shorts at the mere mention of 18 degrees. Here in York we are not only lucky enough to have a beautiful city to walk around in the sun but also an abundance of ice cream and lemonade stands to stop off at. The city looks beautiful in the sun, and it sure knows it. Throughout the summer York is host to numerous events to make the most of our picturesque city and the glorious, if only temporarily so, weather.
One such event is that of Castle Howard’s Flower Festival, hosted from the 23rd June to the 26th. Working with local flower clubs and the Castle Howard’s gardeners, the festival is sure to be a feast for the eyes.
Taking place across a range of Castle Howard’s many wonderful gardens, from the walled garden to their Boar Garden, there’s something for everyone, whether that be the more traditional or contemporary flower arranger. The courtyard will also feature a variety of stalls selling local produce and all the gardening supplies you could possibly want. With the air filled with live music and strawberries and cream on offer, Castle Howard’s Flower Festival is sure to be the definition of the quintessentially English summer. To get you into the mood for such an occasion, why not head over to our Petergate Store, and check out our selection of gardening books. There’s sure to be something for everyone, be it the amateur or the semi-professional.
We’d love to know if you purchased any of our gardening books, or made your way to the flower festival, so please let us know in the comments below, or tweet us @OxfamPetergate using the #LOVEBOOKS
