Arthur C. Clarke

Forbidden Planet lists Arthur C. Clarke’s book “Childhood’s End” as one of the top 10 sci-fi books to read, and was once considered one of the “Big Three” in science fiction writing. Although you may not have read any of his sci-fi novels, you will probably have heard of the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, for which Clarke co-wrote the screenplay. An man with an avid interest in space travel and undersea diving, Clarke won awards not only for his writing, but his contribution to increasing the popularity of science in Britain. One of his award wining books, Rendezvous with Rama, is currently in the works to be made into a film, with Morgan Freeman wishing to produce it.

E.E. “Doc” Smith

Sometimes referred to as the father of space opera, our Petergate shop features a selection of books from both Smith’s “Skylark” and “Family d’Alembert” series. An American author and food technician, Smith is believed to have influenced the scientific-military spheres with his writing.
