Book shopping can be a tiring job, and as the colder months start to set in braving the chilly streets of York is a daunting task. But have no fear, we are here to help!
From Monday 19th October 2015 we will be offering our customers a free cup of coffee between 10 and 11am, Monday to Friday. Just pop in, help yourself, and maybe buy a book while you’re at it! After all, coffee and books go together like, well… coffee and books!
Each week we will be serving a different blend of coffee, so it’s the perfect chance to warm your cockles and try out some new brews.
All our coffee comes from Cafédirect, which is a Fairtrade company based in the UK. Café Direct is dedicated to “championing the work & passion of smallholder growers, delivering great tasting hot drinks to improve livelihoods, whilst pioneering new & better ways to do business”. They truly are an ethical brand.
Cafédirect buy all their tea, coffee, and cocoa directly from the small farmers that they support, and most farmers own shares in the business – making them an integral part of Cafédirect. Moreover, at least a third (but in reality, around 50%) of the company’s profits are reinvested into the growers’ businesses and communities. Importantly, Cafédirect realise that the farmers themselves are the best people to decide how these profits are reinvested, so the development projects have been managed by the Cafédirect Producers’ Foundation (CPF) since 2009. CPF is a registered charity that is led by the growers, for the growers.
So come into the shop between 10 and 11am, Monday to Friday, from the 19th October, and you can warm up, buy a book, and sample some ethical coffee for free! It’s a win-win situation!
