Last night we hosted our final event of the York Literature Festival, members of the York Poetry Workshop read their work along with some well know poems. The second half of the evening was an ‘open mic’ – well as open a mic as there can be without an actual mic. The poems that were read out included the story of how Shakespeare ripped off a Yorkshireman and how Leyton Hewitt blew it. I was even persuaded to read a couple of things… I read a poem by Liz Lochhead called Kidsong/Bairnsong and here is how it should have been done.
As much as we all enjoyed the evening I have no plans on giving up my day job by any means and intend to leave poetry to those who know how to do it well.
